The energy audit of an enterprise or technological process is a study performed in order to establish a clear picture of the current situation and highlight the production (process performance) issues, determine the losses of energy, raw materials and finite product. The energy audit will help identify necessary technological and organizational measures to reduce losses and, thus, production costs, thereby becoming more competitive on the market.
Some of the proposed measures can be low cost while some of them may require rather high investment. Either way, for each measure considered a financial assessment will be performed in order to estimate the payback period (and other relevant indicators) as a result of energy cost savings, reduction of product losses and real improvement of production parameters; this will help identify which measures show a relatively fast payback or a higher benefit in the long run and which are financially unattractive. The assessment of existing issues and their impact will also make clear which measures are urgent and which can be implemented over time.
The energy audit of the enterprise can also provide an energy efficiency certificate accompanied by a time-wise energy efficiency plan. These, together with the energy audit are required to obtain the ISO-50.001 (Energy Management Systems) certification required for operators in the EU market.
